Asti, medieval town

Asti has its origins in the roman period, but lived the most flourishing days in the medieval period. In those days Asti was a powerful municipality, able to fight agains the Longobards.
Despite this, in 1500 Asti was forced to surrender to Savoy and was annexed to the kingdom of Sardinia.

Countless are the traces of the medieval period, like the majestic towers and palaces, the roman-gothic cathedral of S.Secondo and Rotonda of S. Pietro, the most important medieval monument in Asti.

The town, situated at the foot of the green hills of Monferrato, is the center of a fertile area, known especially for its wines.
The district of Asti, due to its lucky position in the midle of Piedmont, is the ideal starting point for tours in the small and old villages to taste the flavours of old traditions like bagna cauda or white truffle, and of the great wines of this land, famous all over the world.
