Palazzo Carignano
A pearl from Guarino Guarini
Realized between 1679 and 1684 by Guarino Guarini for prince Emanuele Filiberto di Savoia Carignano, Palazzo Carignano has one of the most original facades of baroque: curved and with an alternation of concaves and covexess lines that are something new for the style. Palazzo Carignano is situated in Piazza Carlo Alberto, one of the most elegant corners of the town, delimited on the opposite side by the facade of the stables of the prince of Carignano, now home of the Biblioteca Nazionale Universitaria (1959-1973).
The inside of Palazzo Carignano

From the atrium two stairs lead to the noble floor, where is situated the Ballroom, that became in 1848 the Subalpine Parliament first and Italian Parliament then, until 1865 when it was moved to Florence.
Palazzo Carignano, besides many works of Legnanino, hosts museo Nazionale del Risorgimento italiano, Istituto di Studi di Storia del Risorgimento and Soprintendenza per i Beni Artistici e Storici del Piemonte.
